Frank Jordan #2 for Queensland Senate

My personal values are derived from humanism and are consistent with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We have a right to a job, a home, good health and social security. We should not be subject to discrimination and our environment should be protected.

I have been active in a wide range of community groups all my adult life and know how important community is and that it needs to be actively nurtured. I was treasurer of the Lifelong Learning Council Queensland for several years, secretary of the Humanist Society of Queensland, president of the Butterfly and Other Invertebrates Club, co-ordinator of a community garden and leader of a bushcare group. I am best known as the Butterfly Man and co-authored a book, “Create More Butterflies”, about 48 local butterflies.

I have supported solidarity actions for the women of Rojava in northern Syria and the egalitarian society they have created there. I hope that one day the women of Iran and Afghanistan will also be free.

Fair + Inclusive Society

No Australian should live in poverty. If we’re going to create a more equal and resilient community, we need to raise the rate of Jobseeker and other income support payments to at least $82 a day.

Education for Life

Australia has more than 6 million volunteers in almost every endeavour imaginable and they improve our local communities, our society and, collectively, our nation. Volunteers exemplify the richness of spirit to which we should aspire and that makes our nation the place it is. There should be a dramatic increase in funding of grants for volunteering organisations and based on need not pork barrelling.

Ecological Restoration

Feral cats are a nightmare for our native wildlife. There are millions of them across the country and they kill thousands of native animals every minute. Many of our mammals have gone extinct because of cats. By using gene drive technology, we have an extraordinary opportunity to ensure that over time, the number of cats will be reduced until they are no longer a menace.
