Hi, I'm Geoff Marlow and I'm your Fusion Candidate for Cowper. While previously living in areas such as Central Coast NSW and Brisbane QLD, I have ties with communities across all walks of life.

Whilst being a Chef for the majority of my career, I have also been able to collaborate and create with some of Australia's most creative minds. I was previously running some of Brisbane's restaurants and in doing so made plenty of industry and tourism based allies.

I've since started my studies into Law, as I feel my passions in life have also changed. During my time here in NSW for the past two years, I have been involved in volunteer events to combat homelessness and youth crime.

After being a victim of homelessness myself due to the current crisis afflicting the entire country, I have an insider’s view of what needs to be done to fix the multitude of issues.

Modular renewable industry for Australia

Our country is home to some of the most open, unused and valuable land in the world. Our country is home to some of the hardest and most diligent workers in the world. We need to combine the two and create a new area of industry to create renewable modular buildings. Not only will this increase the building output, but it will generate a new and formidable source of housing and income in a sector that is already pleading for more.

Renewable options are readily available now and if we can start to create new job opportunities to work and design with modular technology the limits are non-existent to what we can achieve.

Homeless Crisis

Homelessness has hit us harder now than ever before. Our previous governments have failed the general people and left us in the dire state that a house is now no longer a staple provision. Where once the family home was a pride filled affair that every person could afford, there is now a gaping hole that is becoming more and more difficult to fill.
We need reforms on approval rates from banks, ease of access programs and greater amounts of government housing available.

The current First Home Buyers programs are highly inappropriate and don't properly align with the current status of the vast majority of home buyers. We need rental protection to cover both renter and landlord, with rent price caps and limits on rental increases. We need a formal avenue similar to the current TICA in which tenants have the right to list  inappropriate behaviour as well Government subsidies and equity schemes to help ease the immediate pressure and modular building can increase the output in which new homes are being built.

Youth crime and Youth Justice

We have had a large proportion of our younger society being implicated in increasingly dangerous criminal activity. This is not an easy area to address as it rings home to most of us. We have all more than likely been affected by this crisis. With the gigantic homelessness issues, domestic violence rates at an all time high, and with ludicrous laws in place to criminalise this, it has become a crisis of its own.

To fix this, we MUST hit all these targets simultaneously and head on or we will only be leaving a larger gap for the next generation. Across the Cowper and Kempsey region this is a large problem already and the police have started to implement new task forces, however this is only the first step to help. Instead of focussing on the outcomes of criminal behaviour, we need to look at the foundations of the problem and deal with the situations that create these behaviours, rather than trying to punish them after the fact.
