President nominations

  • Drew Wolfendale

Why are you the most appropriate candidate for the position?

Fusion continues to solidify its place as a large and dynamic organisation - one of only two ideologically comparable parties that has endured since the last election. As we grow, it's crucial that we operate not as a small group centered around a single leader but as a cohesive entity facilitated by effective governance and empowered members.

Over the past year as President, I have endeavoured to embody a servant leadership approach, focusing on facilitation and coordination to empower our members and organisers. I still continue to view the role of President as one that is not about personal recognition but about providing the tools, support, and guidance necessary for others to excel.

My professional experience in large, geographically dispersed organisations has equipped me with the skills to harmonise and coordinate diverse processes into a coherent whole. I have spent nearly a decade honing these abilities, which I believe are essential for steering Fusion towards a cohesive and sustainable future.

Throughout the past year, I have received positive feedback from members who have joined after engaging with me or reading the full values framework. This engagement has also helped build friendly relations with other parties, including groups that could potentially join together with Fusion.

I am confident that the groundwork laid during this term has positioned Fusion to effectively harness the energy and activity that precedes a federal election. My focus remains on ensuring that we can present a competitive case to the electorate and continue to grow as a resilient and dynamic organisation.

How have you been contributing to Fusion?

During the past year in my current tenure as President, I have:

  • Finalised and Published the Full Party Values Framework: Ensuring our values are clearly articulated and accessible, allowing anyone to access, understand and hopefully identify with our core values.
  • Reviewed and Updated Key Aspects of the Organisation's Constitution: Ensuring that embedded hurdles to our organisational sustainability have been better addressed, through a process that brought in stakeholders from all corners of the party.
  • Developed Policy Alignment Principles: Created principles stemming from our values framework to assist spokespeople and representatives in communicating policy positions, even in areas where formal policy is not yet established. (Hopefully published before the AGM)
  • Re-established and Documented Technology-Based Operational Processes: Recovering several essential technological processes and functions that had lapsed or become non-functional due to lack of maintenance. I took the initiative to rebuild and document these processes, ensuring operational continuity, efficiency, and resilience.
  • Formed the Automation Team: Establishing a dedicated team of talent to call on for technological initiatives to enhance our capabilities.
  • Established an Organisational GitHub: Centralised party software intellectual property, facilitating better management and collaboration.
  • Migrated Party Files to a Shared Drive: Enhancing data security and organisational resilience through improved file management and accessibility.
  • Rebuilt Relationships with Former Members: Reconnected with previously estranged party members, fostering goodwill and potentially welcoming new branches into our organisation.

These achievements are particularly significant given the challenges of this being the 2nd inter-election year. This period is often a quiet time for unelected parties, and we faced the additional hurdle of rebuilding capacity after several organisers stepped back due to personal circumstances. Despite these challenges, we have maintained and strengthened our organisational capacity.

Tell us about yourself, including info on your education, experience or skills background.

I am an Adelaide local with a background in engineering and a passion for effective organisational management. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering and have professional experience in the rail industry, where I have worked extensively on strategic management and planning, process and data governance, and effective process design and reform.

My career has been dedicated to facilitation and coordination within large organisations. I have a proven track record of harmonising diverse teams and processes to achieve common goals. This experience directly translates to the needs of Fusion as we continue to grow.

Additionally, I have undertaken studies towards a Master's in Finance and spent a semester studying overseas in Sweden, broadening my perspectives on culture, history, and foreign policy. I am moderately proficient in Swedish and Mandarin, reflecting my interest in global affairs.

Can you describe your alignment with the party's values?

I consider myself a progressive and an ecomodernist with a focus on empowering individuals through facilitative leadership and sustainable advancement within the framework of institutional coordination.

I say actions speak louder than words though: Over the past year, I feel my actions as President have ably represented Fusion's values. I have promoted Personal Liberty by empowering anyone to understand and engage with our core values freely. My efforts to rebuild and document essential technological processes, establish the automation team, and centralise our software resources reflect a commitment to Advancement. Prioritising data security has demonstrated my focus on Safety. In my efforts to rebuild relationships with former members, conduct executive discussions transparently, and prioritise the empowerment of other organisers over personal recognition, I believe I demonstrate my commitment to Equity and Ethical Conduct.

Convenor nominations

  • Owen Miller

Why are you the most appropriate candidate for the position?

I've been on the executive committee for two years now and I still find it fulfilling. I've recently run as a candidate in the Merri-bek council elections where I scored 4.5%, up from 2.89% in Aston. I feel I'm improving as a spokesperson for Fusion, especially as I become more involved with writing policy − I'm currently finishing off our housing policy.

I'm running specifically as convenor so that I can continue speaking on Fusion's behalf where required.

How have you been contributing to Fusion?

In the past 12 months, my biggest project has been the website redesign − updating the visual style of the site; revising the text; and implementing everything in NationBuilder templates.

I'm very happy with how this has turned out, although there are still some more tasks planned around this.

The other big task was running for council! I feel I handled things better this time around, but I made the mistake of focusing on innovation in the pitch, which unfortunately didn't end up converting too many people.

I'm still learning and I'm eager to put these lessons to work in the upcoming federal election, where I'll be running for Wills.

Tell us about yourself, including info on your education, experience or skills background.

I grew up in Sydney and studied at the University of Sydney − BSc (Computer Science) and BEng (Mechatronics) (Hons I). Afer a few years as a software engineer in Sydney, I then moved to Seattle to work on the recommender systems at Amazon. Then I spent 5 years in New York at various startups, including one of my own, which unfortunately never took off 😅

Thinking about technological trends is probably what got me into politics − I could see how governments kept failing to make the most of our technological improvements and how they were losing relevance to the likes of Google, Facebook and Amazon.

I started the Non-Human Party in 2020, standing up for the rights of robots and animals. I was already a fan of the Future Party and ended up joining the Science Party in 2021.

In 2022 I moved to Melbourne, where I still work for the same NFT company based in New York.

I became the Registered Officer for Fusion at the same time I moved to Melbourne, and I've been on the executive committee ever since. I'm keen to keep contributing for a bit longer 🙂

Can you describe your alignment with the party's values?

If we take the 6 values at https://www.fusionparty.org.au/our_values, then I most closely align with the belief in Advancement. I think that nations have a duty to keep evolving as their citizens and the rest of the world inevitably keep changing.

By embracing advancement, we're ensuring that we're staying ahead of the curve, rather than relying on knee-jerk reactions and wasting time fighting the last war.

Ecological harmony is also important to me, although unfortunately it seems to be shaping up as a low priority for the next federal election, where people are only talking about the nebulous "cost of living" and of course, the "housing crisis". I'm actively involved in writing our housing policy, as I can see how urgent and important this is for our electoral chances.

Besides the 6 explicit values, I'm also a big believer in Universal Basic Income and I'm an active member of Basic Income Australia.

Secretary nominations

  • Amanda van Keimpema

Why are you the most appropriate candidate for the position?

I am a highly organised operations professional with 30 years in roles across large corporates and rapid scale start ups. The secretary position would capitalise on my skills and experience across my professional roles. I am highly experienced in all facets of operations including compliance, finance, team management, marketing, customer success and training.

How have you been contributing to Fusion?

I am relatively new to Fusion and came to the party as a former member of the Secular Party. I have been involved in events and campaigning within Queensland and am working to increase my involvement with Miles across the Qld space.

Tell us about yourself, including info on your education, experience or skills background.

I currently hold the position of Chief Operating Officer of a Digital Health SaaS business. I have been in this role since the businesses inception and have been instrumental in growing the team, growing the business and building systems and processes. I have also single handedly led our compliance with both ISO27001 and SOC2. Prior to my current role I was a self employed operations specialist in the start up space where I helped multiple business owners systemise their business for rapid growth. I have held multiple operations positions in a Big 4 bank where I worked for 15 years. My skills are heavy on the administration and operations side and I don't have a particular specialisation but rather an overall appreciation of business management and responsibilities. I enjoy supporting front line staff to have the tools they need to advance the organisation.

Can you describe your alignment with the party's values?

As mentioned, I came to Fusion via Secular and was delighted to find Fusion aligned with my values even those outside the religious space. I am a supporter of all Fusion policies and would like to see the party expand on these and help support the growth of what I see as a great party for Australia's future. I hope to be able to support candidates and the executive to build a sustainable and growing collective of people who also support the values.

Treasurer nominations

  • Imelda Charlotte Adamson Agars

Why are you the most appropriate candidate for the position?

I’m new to the Fusion Party Community, so I consider myself to be the most appropriate and approachable person in a deputy support role. My greatest strength is in leading from behind, as I really don’t need to be the frontman of any band, and my primary goal is in empowering others to be successful in their own way.

I’m keen to support the great work that Miles, Owen and Drew have done so far. They are as keen as mustard to do so much more, and I am a good candidate to support them as a fellow deputy at an executive level.

My particular electorate is the outback seat of Grey, which pretty much covers all of the geographical pastoral station and agricultural areas of South Australia, beyond the urban expanse of the Adelaide metropolitan and urbanised near country areas.

There’s a strong place for open minded political discussions here, and there is an increasingly strong desire to promote a community independent voice as well. The biggest fear everyday folks hold about community independence representation, is that the incumbent may become isolated and elitist by their singularity, or may be seen to be trying to do too much with too little resources.

Fusion is in an interesting position to become a potential campaign leader in remote and regional Australia, because the collective consciousness of many people who uphold a common interest in improving their niche communities is absolutely at the foundation of what drives the people who live, work and play beyond the black stump.

How have you been contributing to Fusion?

I support financially with a regular monthly investment.
I only discovered and joined the Fusion Party a few months ago in 2024, so this is my first orbital year in your evolutionary journey, which is now mine, too.

Tell us about yourself, including info on your education, experience or skills background.

I grew up in Adelaide. I am the fourth child of strong people who were both farmers, but ultimately gave up living in the country, to provide a more formal home life for their children. I was born with profound physical disabilities affecting my circulation and my ability to swallow. I walked when I was 4 years old and ran when I was 9 years old. I have always loved food and I have learned to avoid the things that could choke me, and very consciously enjoy the menu that won’t choke me.

Wool classing was my chosen trade upon leaving school and I worked in shearing sheds for the first decade of my career until the Australian Wool stockpile (which had been such an asset to this country for close to a century) was privatised by the federal government and the Australian wool industry collapsed in the late 1980’s, early 1990’s.

Ultimately that need for change led me to university and I studied nursing and humanitarian issues, which opened doors for me to pursue a career in remote community governance, local government and community services. I have been a station cook, a governess, TAFE lecturer, funeral director and coronial transport coordinator, as well as a senior manager in local regional government across three decades. My grant writing skills are well honed and I am presently the Vice Chair of a remote “Out of Districts” Progress Association, and I help represent the grassroots issues of this region to the South Australian government. Effectively, we are a local government organisation comprised of volunteers.

My interest in politics is lifelong. My parents were movers and shakers in community politics all of their lives. I previously stood as an independent candidate for the seat of Lingiari in the last election. I completed the Pathways to Politics for Women programme in the Northern Territory, earlier this year. I am supportive of the Independent for Grey community initiative. And I intend to out my hat into the ring to run as a candidate for Grey next year; and who knows, where that might lead me.

Can you describe your alignment with the party's values?

The Fusion Party’s values are very well aligned with promoting the needs and aspirations for a just society, while building policies that strive to address inequality and poverty and the many other challenges facing our nation. I am proud to support this initiative and am keen to work to make good headway in addressing these challenges in our communities. It’s what I do. And I’m pleased to support you in that journey, too. Cheers very much for the opportunity.

National Campaigns Coordinator nominations

  • Imelda Charlotte Adamson Agars (as above)

  • Miles Whiticker

Why are you the most appropriate candidate for the position?

I have either been the party's National Campaign Coordinator or supporting the role since the foundation of Fusion in 2021/2022. Over that time I've participated in most Fusion campaigns around Australia - either in person or (more often) through remote support, advice and training.

I've written several strategy proposals and campaign reviews over that time, as well as been on the ground observing winning (and losing) campaigns from many other parties in the past six years. Some of the most valuable and informative campaign experiences I've gained from being on the front lines of the Queensland Greens meteoric rise in the past 8 years, but I've also been informed by the Community Independants Project and other campaigning organisations. I've read widely on political philosophy and organising theory which I pair with my experience in campaigning on the ground.

How have you been contributing to Fusion?

Over the past decade I have filled nearly every role in a political party. In the past 3 years of Fusion I have predominantly focussed on:

- Training (including train-the-trainer and creating modular documentation)
- Volunteer activation, mobilisation and coordination (particularly for geographic branch development)

I have additionally assisted in statistical analysis, strategy, social media, website development, and preparing some technical tools for the party.

Tell us about yourself, including info on your education, experience or skills background.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Games Programming and am currently working towards a dual Bachelor's Degree in Science (Physics/Maths) and Secondary Education. I work as a freelance full stack engineer, with professional experience in childcare and youthwork. I have extensive volunteering experience in communication (particularly science communication), community engagement and campaigning.

I read widely. Some of my favourite subjects are: political philosophy, organising theory, pulp fantasy, and old scifi.

I currently cycle and run regularly. Occasionally I also enjoy rock climbing and long distance hiking.

Can you describe your alignment with the party's values?

I am a metamodernist, who advocates for the synthesis of different "cultural logics" as an effective and moral way to create a brighter future for all humanity.

Prior to Fusion I was a long time member (and national president) of the Pirate Party. While that identity is still with me I have been attracted to the idea of a broader movement, unifying different identities and approaches while respecting our differences. This led me to be one of the initial party negotiators that brought Fusion together in 2021/2022.

I've heard this also described as "universal social liberalism" or "green social liberalism", but the most evocative way I have to describe it is "the Nordic Ideology" which broadly borrows from the Scandinavian model of social democracy for economic, environmental and social issues.

Specifically, I have participated or ran campaigns on every single value in the Fusion party values framework and believe that they represent a good encapsulation of my philosophy.

  • Andrew Peter Downing

Why are you the most appropriate candidate for the position?

I think a Dispute Resolution officer needs to be able to perform their role as neutrally as possible, listening to all sides without prejudice. I think I can do that well.

How have you been contributing to Fusion?

I helped write the Fusion Constitution and DRC processes, I was involved in the development of many of the original Pirate Party policies and in their integration into Fusion.

Tell us about yourself, including info on your education, experience or skills background.

I left high school after year 10, did a 2 year certificate in Engineering Surveying, followed by a 2 year certificate in Computer Programming. I helped code one of Australia's first online banking systems, I've worked in startups, medium and mega corporations, Australian, Japanese, multi-nationals. I've been an IT operator, programmer, analyst, manager, chief architect, team leader, QA Engineer and Support Engineer - but in every role I had the same guiding idea - "How can I help?", and that seems to work for everyone.

Can you describe your alignment with the party's values?

I like the values as expressed at: https://www.fusionparty.org.au/our_values
They're not simplistic. They're not mere platitudes, but a complex, nuanced set of principles that take thought to apply in the real world.
