G’day, I’m Owen Miller, your Fusion candidate for Wills. As a software engineer and Brunswick local, I’m throwing my hat in the ring because I believe we can build a more empathetic, sustainable and innovative society − but only if we start embracing bold ideas and tackling problems at their root causes.
We’ve seen problems grow and grow as voters keep electing the same two parties who kick big problems down the road: climate, housing, mental health, innovation.
Our economy has lost its innovative spirit, and our income is dependent on digging things out of the ground, or betting on real estate.
Our governments continue to pursue GDP maximisation at the expense of our environment and our mental wellbeing.
It doesn’t have to be like this; and here are my priorities for turning it around:
🌱 Emergency Climate Action
- A bold plan which goes far beyond simply adding more rooftop solar 🌏
- Build more pumped hydro, so our grid can store weeks' worth of intermittent renewable power and we can close down coal & gas generators.
- Let's innovate and lead the world with technologies which reduce & remove greenhouse gases. For example, reflect heat back into space using marine cloud brightening ⛅
- Precision fermentation to efficiently grow meats without killing animals 🐮, using far less water and land, allowing 3/4ths of farmland to be rewilded! 🐨
Universal Basic Income
- Financial freedom for all − a weekly income covering housing and basic needs 🏡
- A safety net for all, without the hoops.
- Lifts people out of poverty − freedom to escape abusive jobs or relationships.
- Freedom to retrain in new industries or to pursue more meaningful work 🧑🏫🧑⚕🔬
- More time for family or volunteering 🙋
- More money for artists and local shops 🖼
- Backed by hundreds of studies. It’s not as crazy as you might think💡
🏡 Affordable housing
- Reduce the tax favouritism given to owners over renters
- Real land tax like Henry George proposed, without loopholes. Aligns government spending to infrastructure like high-speed rail. Decreases land wastage ("land banking").
- Go from 3.2% social housing to 10% public housing 📈
- Reduce immigration to levels we can actually handle 🏗
- Efficient use of capital for real investments like R&D 🔬

🤖 Open-source Cybernetics
- Innovation that serves our actual needs, even when it doesn't generate profits − creating harmony and lowering the cost of living 😌
- Release government software open-source, allowing scrutiny and contributions by all of society 👐
- Race against misaligned AI 🤖
- Fund open-source projects to compete against nefarious monopolies and to spur on further innovation.
- A great way to automate away demeaning, immoral jobs that nobody wants!
By embracing the best practices of the software industry, we’ll allow residents to see how decisions are made and even improve these processes themselves. Together, we’ll build a foundation for incredible innovation and a truly connected community.
We can dream so much bigger for Australia! Let’s start building a future that works for all of us and for our environment. Vote for innovation and empowerment. Vote Owen Miller for Wills.

Thank you for your interest
Donating to the campaign helps me get the word out to all voters in the ward
My nomination fee is $2,000 alone, even before all the posters, digital ads and flyers required.
I'd like to think that ads are unnecessary and that people will proactively read through the policies of each candidate objectively, but unfortunately that's not the way things work. With your help, we can move towards governance that's accountable and transparent − governance that actively welcomes collaboration with wider society.
Your help is really appreciated 💕
